The Best of 2016

2016 has been another epic year for us here at Barzura, but definitely one we don’t want to see forgotten anytime soon. We have compiled a list of what we think have been the best highlights for our amazing community over the past year.

  • International Women’s Day – what another awe inspiring day this was, not just for us but also for so many within the community. This year we played host to Australian based sustainable fashion line The Possibility Projectwith an active fundraising campaign to help with their empowering work. 2016 saw over $7,000 raised toward the cause with a fantastic group of both men and women enjoying a morning of breakfast, cocktails and truly motivational talks.
This fan favourite day clearly couldn’t be completed to such high success without the support of everyone that attended the event, the local community for their support, our corporate partners and friends and THP haircutters, the possibility project ladies themselves and of course our hard working staff that managed to pull this day off without a hitch. You are all amazing.

  • Photo Competition – After the amazing result from our first photo competition held last year we went forth and decided it would be crazy not to provide all the wonderful users of Facebook and Instagram the chance to win big again. In true Coogee style we were inundated with the most breathtaking images of Coogee, Barzura and surroundings I think anyone has ever seen. It came as no shock when our three delicately chosen judges, Rob from Adina Apartment Hotel Coogee, Dan the Beast Magazineand Mari from Barzura, struggled to pin point the sole winner of a two night stay at the Adina Apartment Hotel Coogee, yoga passes at the livingroom yoga school Coogeeand dinner and breakfast vouchers with yours truly. I have a sneaking suspicion that 2017 will once again see the return of the annual affair.

  • Restaurant Themed Months – Over the years we have done nothing short of showing our support to the food of the world, often embracing cuisine and culture diversity so much that you could be transported to a whole new paradise once you take those first precious steps inside the wonderful wooden and glass Barzura of doors. 2016 saw the return of two of our favorites, Christmas in July and Mexican Month (October). This year we also welcomed French Food Month (May) that introduced a swarm of fun loving French driven enthusiasts down the paths of Paris, with traditional delights of pate, soup and wine. We were also blessed with the artistic portraits created by none other than fantastic french artist Emilie Protiere.

  • Community Involvement Skyrockets – We believe in the betterment of the community in order to achieve the betterment of oneself. With that we have constantly put our best foot forward and offered our services both locally and internationally. This year literally bought out the best of 2016 with us supporting campaigns like Walama Wuru which works toward building education and support for aboriginal communities in Australia, Healthy Kids Program which was implemented in 2011 and has since seen over $40k raised through the help of local schools like Coogee Public and St Brigids. Communities Assisthas once again been our leading charitable organization in which we have offered our continual support through in house fundraising events and more recently openly supported their MyCausePage which is aiming to raise $50k to build a Sustainable Practices and Education Centre.
